Creative Journey

Sarojini Datta is an accomplished visual artist whose practice explores the interplay of nature, memory, atmosphere and human emotion. Through evocative landscapes, architectural studies and expressive compositions, she captures the transient beauty of everyday moments—from rain-washed streets and tranquil waters to temple architecture, open fields and the changing moods of the natural world. Her work reflects a sensitive engagement with light, colour and atmosphere, transforming familiar scenes into deeply personal visual experiences.

Her artistic journey began remarkably early, with her first solo exhibition at the age of 16 at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. Alongside her artistic pursuits, she holds a degree in Psychology from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi, and a Bachelor of Education, bringing an understanding of human perception and emotion to her creative practice.

With participation in over 40 workshops and exhibitions in India and internationally, Sarojini has developed a diverse artistic perspective through engagements spanning Fabriano and Bologna in Italy, Chicago, Oman and Dubai. Her international workshop experiences in Greece, Italy, Turkey and Vietnam have further enriched her visual vocabulary and engagement with varied artistic approaches.

Her accomplishments include the Special Jury Award by Artathon, Gold Award by Kreative Minds, Most Versatile Artist Award by Opus, and Legend Award by Astitva. Her more recent distinctions include an Honourable Mention Award from IWS Singapore and the Bharatiya Sewa Ratna Samman, conferred by AGNIPATH – Artists’ Group for National Interest in Peaceful Action for Harmony.

Rooted in realism yet open to abstraction and intuitive expression, Sarojini works across watercolour, acrylics and encaustic techniques. Her approach embraces experimentation with colour, texture and layered surfaces, allowing recognisable forms to evolve into evocative interpretations of lived experience. She is particularly drawn to transformation—the emergence of light from darkness, the emotional resonance of ordinary forms, and the quiet intensity of fleeting moments.

For Sarojini, painting is both an act of observation and a process of self-discovery. Her work invites viewers to slow down, reconnect with their surroundings and discover personal meaning within the relationship between nature, memory and emotion. Through her evolving practice, she celebrates beauty, resilience and wonder, expressing an enduring belief in art’s capacity to preserve moments, evoke feeling and awaken the spirit.
