Creative Journey

Mousumi Sircar is a contemporary Indian artist based in Gurugram, Haryana, whose artistic practice explores the expressive possibilities of colour, form, and figurative representation. Working primarily in acrylics, she creates paintings that balance recognisable subjects with an expressive visual language, inviting viewers to engage with the emotions, narratives, and personal interpretations that emerge from her work.

Her artistic journey reflects an evolution from realistic oil painting towards contemporary figurative and semi-abstract expression. Through considered compositions, layered brushwork, and an exploration of colour relationships, Mousumi moves beyond literal representation to explore the essence of her subjects. Drawing inspiration from everyday experiences, human connections, and her surroundings, she transforms familiar observations into distinctive visual narratives.

Without formal training in art, Mousumi has developed her practice through sustained exploration and experimentation, guided in part by eminent Indian artists Shobha Broota and Ashok Bhowmick. This journey has shaped an evolving artistic vocabulary that brings together the discipline of observation and the freedom of individual expression.

Mousumi Sircar has exhibited her work across India and internationally through solo and group exhibitions. Her notable presentations include solo exhibitions at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, and Mantra Art Gallery, Ahmedabad, alongside participation in India Art Festival, Mumbai, the World Art Fair, Dubai, and Palette of India at the Nehru Centre, London. Her exhibition journey reflects her continued engagement with diverse audiences and the contemporary art landscape.

With a practice spanning realistic and semi-abstract approaches, Mousumi continues to explore how colour, composition, and the treatment of form can transform familiar subjects into meaningful artistic experiences. Her work reflects an ongoing commitment to creative discovery and the development of a personal visual language within contemporary Indian art.
