Creative Journey

Mamta is a contemporary artist whose practice explores the artistic possibilities of thread as a medium for expressing India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. Drawing inspiration from Indian mythology, traditional imagery, and cultural narratives, she creates intricate handmade artworks that combine vibrant colours, layered textures, and meticulous detailing.

Her distinctive approach transforms colourful threads into expressive compositions, bringing traditional subjects to life through an unconventional artistic medium. The interplay of flowing lines, carefully arranged fibres, and textured surfaces lends her work a unique visual identity. Each composition reflects patience, precision, and a deep engagement with the craft, demonstrating how familiar materials can be reimagined as meaningful works of art.

A defining aspect of her practice is the balance between the decorative richness of Indian traditional art and the tactile qualities of textile-based expression. Through the careful placement and layering of threads, she builds intricate forms that draw attention to both the visual narrative and the craftsmanship involved. Her work offers a distinctive interpretation of familiar cultural themes, allowing traditional imagery to find expression through a contemporary handmade medium.

With an artistic journey spanning nearly two decades, Mamta has participated in numerous group exhibitions, art fairs, and cultural events across India. Her exhibition history includes the Lucknow Art Craft Mela, Art Laureate Gallery in Gurgaon, Kala Mela in Lucknow, Gandhi Darshan in New Delhi, the Rose Festival in Chandigarh, and the Khajuraho Art Exhibition, among others. Her journey also includes recognition at Kala Mela Utsav, Lucknow, in 2014, and an art camp in Dehradun in 2016.

Through her thread art, she brings together traditional Indian aesthetics and contemporary handmade expression, celebrating the enduring relevance of cultural storytelling while expanding the creative possibilities of textile and fibre-based art. Her practice reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and the reinterpretation of heritage, inviting viewers to appreciate the cultural significance, material detail, and artistic imagination woven into each composition.
